Five things that are true regardless of your relationship status

Being loved by one specific person is not proof you are loveable. One person’s preference is not a referendum on your worth.

Who you are exists independently of who you’re with. A relationship can illuminate parts of you, but those parts were already there. Losing the relationship does not take them with it.

When rejection hits your self-worth, here’s what helps

Knowing something intellectually and feeling it are two very different things. The following is what actually moves the needle when the logic isn’t landing.

Name what happened accurately

Say: “This relationship ended” not “I was rejected.” Language shapes how the brain processes experience.

Feel the grief without narrating it as failure

You are allowed to be sad, furious, or gutted. but saying I am fundamentally unloveable is a thought, not a fact.

Return to evidence of who you are

Write down five things that are true about you that have nothing to do with this relationship. Your kindness. Your humour. How you show up for others. None of that changed.

Separate the wound from the conclusion

Ask: where have I felt this before? Rejection pain often activates much older wounds. The current hurt is real but its intensity may belong to something earlier than this person.

Let yourself be witnessed

Tell someone what you’re feeling not to be talked out of it, but to be seen in it. Being witnessed in pain without being fixed is genuinely therapeutic.

Don’t immediately “fix” yourself

When we feel unchosen, we rush to change something. Pause first. Ask: am I making a choice, or am I punishing myself for someone else’s decision?
