Giving Yourself Permission To Slow Down
Because Your Energy Matters
We often think of self-care as adding more to our lives, but what if the kindest thing you could do for yourself this week is actually less?
When Slowing Down Becomes Self-Care
True self-care isn’t always about doing more. Sometimes it’s about having the wisdom to recognize when your energy tank is running low and giving yourself permission to pump the brakes.
This might look like:
Honoring your body’s need for rest like taking that afternoon nap instead of pushing through fatigue
Choosing one meaningful task over a packed to-do list, even when your calendar says otherwise
Saying no to that extra commitment when you’re already stretched thin
Moving at your own pace rather than the world’s expectations
Your Energy is Finite And That's Okay
Think of your energy like a phone battery. You wouldn’t expect your phone to function at 5% power the same way it does at 100%.
Why do we expect that from ourselves?
Quick Energy Check-In:
How full does your energy tank feel right now? (Be honest!)
What’s one thing you could remove from today to create breathing room?
When did you last slow down without feeling guilty about it?
This Week's Challenge
Pick one day this week to practice “selective doing.” Instead of cramming in everything on your list, choose the one thing that truly matters and give it your full, unhurried attention. Notice how this feels different from rushing through five half-completed tasks.
Remember: Slowing down isn’t giving up. It’s tuning in.
