Here’s what might be happening: you’re coping. And coping is important but it’s not healing.
Coping keeps you a float.
Healing moves you forward.
What’s the Difference?
Coping
What you do to survive the moment. Managing symptoms, reducing distress, getting through the day. Essential and valid but doesn’t change what’s underneath.
Healing
What you do to transform the root cause. Processing emotions, understanding patterns, addressing what’s driving your pain. Uncomfortable but transformative.
Think of it this way: coping is taking pain medication for a broken bone. Healing is setting the bone so it can actually repair. You need both but one without the other keeps you stuck.

Both Are Necessary
Coping isn’t bad or a failure. It keeps you safe when healing feels too overwhelming. It gets you through crisis. It makes life manageable.

Healing is what changes things at the root. It’s what allows you to stop needing so many coping mechanisms because the wounds are addressed.
