Early Support Matters: What To Do If Your Child Is Struggling
January 28, 2026You Don’t Need to Figure This Out Alone
Mental health support can feel overwhelming. Not because you don’t want help, but because you’re not sure who you’re supposed to see. If you’ve ever thought “I don’t even know where to start,” you’re not alone.
At MPC, we have a full range of mental health professionals under one roof but you don’t need to know all the credentials. Just tell us what you’re looking for, and we’ll help you find the right fit.
Understanding the Professionals We Have
Registered Social Worker (RSW)
A social worker can be a therapist but not every social worker practices psychotherapy. A social worker can provide therapy though. They are also one of the most widely covered mental health professionals in Canada.
Student Therapist
Our student therapists are completing their degrees in mental health fields while pursuing psychotherapy. They are being supervised by our clinical director Suramya Agrawal to ensure that they provide the best care possible.
Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) – RP(Q)
Completed their Master’s and working toward full registration. They provide the same therapy services as fully registered psychotherapists but instead they are under supervision by a fully registered psychotherapist.
Registered Psychotherapist (RP)
Fully registered psychotherapist with extensive training and clinical hours. Qualified to treat a wide range of mental health concerns using various therapeutic approaches.
Psychiatrist (MD)
Medical doctors who specialize in mental health. They can diagnose conditions, and prescribe medication.
What Actually Matters Most
All of these professionals can help with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and life transitions. What matters more than credentials is finding someone who specializes in what you’re dealing with, uses an approach that resonates with you, and feels like a good fit.
Did You Know?
While we do not have an in-house psychiatrist. We offer psychiatric consultations where your therapist is present with you for the entire 90 to 120-minute session.
Why this matters:
- You don’t have to explain your entire story to a stranger in 15 minutes
- Your therapist provides context and advocates for what they’ve observed
- You have support and continuity throughout the process
Just Reach Out!
Not sure where to start? When you reach out, we’ll ask about what you’re looking for and what you’re hoping to work on. From there, we’ll suggest the right fit for you, whether that’s a student therapist, registered psychotherapist, social worker, or a combination of therapy and psychiatric consultation. That way, you don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need to take the first step.
Before you can build a healthy relationship with someone else, you need to build one with yourself. Not because you’re broken and need fixing, but because you deserve to know your own worth independent of anyone else’s validation.
Ready to find your fit? We’re here to help you find the right support. Reach out to schedule a session at 437-434-1113 or visit our Saturday walk-in clinic (10 AM – 2 PM, no appointment needed).
