Trauma often lives in the body, expressing itself through tension, fatigue, anxiety, and disconnection. Through our three-part therapeutic movement series, we’ll guide you through somatic exercises that calm the nervous system, improve emotional processing, and help you feel more at home in your body again.

Therapeutic movement is about releasing  stored trauma, restoring your sense of emotional balance.

At Mississauga Psychotherapy Center, we offer compassionate, body-based trauma healing. This movement-based series was developed by experienced therapists to gently guide you through the release of held trauma using evidence-informed somatic approaches. Whether you join online or in person, our small, supportive groups help you find relief without medication or performance pressure.

What To Expect

In this 3-session therapeutic movement program, you’ll build awareness of how your body stores trauma by observing and understanding the mind-body connection. We’ll introduce grounding exercises that help shift your body out of survival mode into a state of safety. We’ll deepen the process by incorporating Eastern practices like EFT tapping and Tai Chi to help you let go of lingering emotional tension and surrender into calm. Finally, we will  focus on using gentle eye movement exercises and an inner child meditation to support emotional integration and create space for new, empowering feelings to take root. Each session is 60 minutes and includes breathwork, movement, and compassionate guidance tailored to your healing journey.

This program is ideal for anyone feeling stuck, disconnected, or physically burdened by unprocessed emotional pain. If you’ve tried talk therapy but still feel overwhelmed in your body, this class offers a new path to healing.

Modalities Used:

Somatic Movement

Somatic Movement Therapy focuses on how emotions and trauma are stored in the body. It uses gentle, mindful movements that promote body awareness and encourage the release of physical tension. By reconnecting with physical sensations, you’ll develop a deeper understanding of how your body holds stress and begin to restore a sense of internal safety. This modality helps you gently shift from chronic fight, flight, or freeze states into rest and regulation, offering a felt sense of relief and grounding.

EFT combines elements of traditional Chinese acupressure with modern psychology. By tapping on specific meridian points while acknowledging difficult emotions or thoughts, you can reduce emotional intensity, calm your nervous system, and process unresolved trauma. This technique is especially effective for anxiety, phobias, and self-limiting beliefs, and is simple enough to use independently outside of sessions.

Throughout the program, guided meditations are used to support nervous system regulation, deepen relaxation, and promote emotional healing. These meditations often include body scans, grounding imagery, and breath awareness. Over time, they help retrain your brain to recognize safety and reduce hypervigilance, providing a foundation for long-term resilience and calm.

This powerful therapeutic technique helps you connect with and nurture younger parts of yourself that may be carrying emotional wounds from past experiences. By gently revisiting these inner parts in a safe and guided way, you can offer them compassion, validation, and healing. Inner child work supports emotional reparenting and often brings a renewed sense of self-worth, trust, and emotional release.
